Emergency Preparedness

In the Event of an Emergency...

We pray and hope that emergencies of any kind do not affect our church family; however, we also want to do our due diligence to be prepared in case an emergency does happen.  Ourstaff, church board, ushers, and greeters have all been trained on the following protcols.

FIRE EMERGENCY

In case of the need to evacuate (i.e. fire alarm, gas leak, etc.), all persons should immediately exit the building and rendezvous at the east end of the parking lot near the green trash dumpster. All persons should stay on the grass to allow emergency vehicles access to the road/driveway.

If alarm sounds, designate someone to call the fire department (the alarm should automatically trigger the fire department that help is needed).

Clear each area, turn off the lights and close the doors

Feel all doors with your hand before opening. If the door is hot, do not open it. If the door is cool, open it slowly, keeping behind the door in case you have to quickly close it to protect yourself from oncoming smoke or fire.

Do not use the elevator.

Security team, staff, and other church leaders should communicate with each other as areas are cleared.

Once building is cleared, assist in crowd control outside, families finding each other, and making room for emergency vehicles to enter.

Keep all exists and driveways clear.

Do not get into vehicles and attempt to leave the area.

Direct all people upwind away from the area of the fire.

Be prepared because if a fire is present, the automatic sprinklers will be activated.

Those in children’s building will exit out of their building
and meet at evacuation site.

All parents should sign out their children with the Children’s Pastor
so all are accounted for.

Tornado Emergency

When a “Tornado Watch” has been issued, assign someone to track the system via internet and weather alert radio in the front office.

When Tornado Sirens sound as a result of a “Tornado Warning” church staff member, security team member, or church leader, will announce a severe weather warning and direct people to designated safe areas.

Make announcements clearly and calmly, do not leave the building.

Move the crowd away from possible flying glass, exterior rooms, and straight through hallways.

As each area is cleared, turn off the lights and close the doors.

Security team, staff, and other church leaders should communicate with each other as areas are cleared.

Children will be brought from the children’s building
to room 301

Children and workers from the nurseries will assemble in
restrooms near canopy

All parents should sign out their children with the Children’s Pastor
so all are accounted for.

Intruder Alert

Person noticing the potential threat will notify security team member, staff member or church leader immediately.

During assessment of the situation, if person in question is armed or irrational (yelling, making threats etc.), call 911 immediately for police help. If 911 is called, send a person outside to meet police to explain situation and give directions to where the person is located.

Attempt to seal off area around the threat, i.e. blocking hallways, locking doors or buildings, while keeping people away.

Delegate a person(s) to go to every classroom instructing them to lock door(s), and to shelter in place.

Instruct teacher (adult in charge) to stay put until word comes that the threat no longer exists. The person in charge of classroom should keep occupants away from door and windows and barricade the door if necessary.

Prepare counter measures if needed

Medical Emergency

Clear immediate area surrounding the ill person.

Ask if there is any professional medical people (nurses, doctors, people trained in CPR if necessary, etc) in the crowd.

If so allow them to take control of the ill person.

Keep everyone calm and seated, keeping aisle ways clear for ventilation and emergency response people.

Designate someone to call for emergency response help.

Post someone at the front entrance to direct the emergency response team.
